Overcrowding and lack of mattress ( A single mattress is shared by 3-4 students)

Lack of shelf to put their clothes and books.

The trend of urban migration among rural students seeking access to education presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities in pastoralist communities of Borana. As these students moves from rural areas to urban centers in pursuit of better educational opportunities, it is crucial to address the transitional needs and provide support necessary for their successful integration into secondary school environments.

This migration in pursuit of secondary education presents a multifaceted challenge, as these students often encounter significant barriers that impede their adjustment and success integration into urban schools.  In urban settings addressing one’s own unique needs is essential to ensure that they are able to transit effectively and thrive in their new educational settings. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop targeted interventions and support mechanisms that can facilitate a smooth and empowering experience for rural students migrating to urban areas for secondary education.

Basic Needs Unmet:

Students often encounter poor hostel facilities lacking essential items such as blankets, sheets, mattresses, cooking utensils, solar lamps, sanitary pads for female students and stationery materials.

Proposed Solution:

To address these challenges, a multi-pronged approach is needed to meet the basic needs of these students and support their educational aspirations. Providing the necessary resources and support will help ensure their successful integration and empower them to achieve their academic goals.
